Question 1

Does Fluxed work without an internet connection?

Accepted Answer

Once you've loaded the app at least once, conversions run fully offline - image, audio, video, PDF, data, archives, ICO, Word/OpenDocument, fonts, ebooks, and presentations. The Service Worker caches the app locally, so it even loads without a connection.

AIFF and WMA audio inputs are the one exception - they load an extra decoder on first use, which needs a brief download. After that they're cached and work offline too. Background removal downloads a local ML model (~170MB) on first use, then stays cached.

Question 2

What happens if I lose my internet connection mid-conversion?

Accepted Answer

Once the required converter engine is already loaded, conversion continues on your device. There is no remote conversion job to cancel. If an engine had not finished downloading yet, wait until you are online again, then retry.

Question 3

How is offline mode possible?

Accepted Answer

Fluxed is a Progressive Web App with a Service Worker that caches the app and converter engines locally. Conversion logic runs in-browser via Web Workers, browser APIs, and WASM. Selected file contents are not uploaded for conversion; offline use works after those software assets are cached.

Question 4

Do you collect my data?

Accepted Answer

Fluxed does not ship analytics, tracking cookies, login, or ads. Selected file contents are not uploaded for conversion; they stay in your browser. Loading the app still fetches software assets (pages, WASM engines, optional models). Ordinary server access logs may record technical request metadata, not your document contents.

Question 5

Can I use Fluxed on public WiFi?

Accepted Answer

Yes for your files. Conversion does not upload selected file contents, so a hostile WiFi network cannot intercept your document bytes via a Fluxed upload. The browser may still fetch app assets over that network when engines load for the first time. Prefer a trusted network or pre-cache tools on a known connection if that matters to you.

Question 6

What leaves my device when I convert a file?

Accepted Answer

Your selected file is processed locally and is not sent to Fluxed for conversion. App resources (HTML/JS, WASM codecs, and optional ML models) may download when a tool needs them. After caching, many workflows continue offline.

Question 7

What image formats do you support?

Accepted Answer

Input: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, AVIF, JPEG XL (.jxl), TIFF, BMP, HEIC. Output: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, and JPEG XL when the browser can encode it. JPEG XL decoding works in Safari 17+, Chrome 155+, and Firefox 158+. If the browser cannot read or write .jxl, the tool says so. Background removal is also supported. It uses a local ML model (~170MB) that is downloaded on first use and cached by the Service Worker - after that it works fully offline. The first run takes a moment while the model loads. For icons, the ICO tool can also trace high-contrast rasters to monochrome SVG.

Question 8

What audio formats are supported?

Accepted Answer

Supported: MP3, MP2, WAV, OGG, AAC, FLAC, OPUS, M4A, M4R, AIFF, WMA, AC3, AMR, DTS, Speex (SPX), CAF, W64, WavPack (WV), VOC, TTA, and RealAudio (RA). You can trim a time range, apply fade in/out, force mono or stereo, normalize loudness, strip ID3 metadata, and extract audio from MP4/WebM/MKV/MOV/AVI. FFmpeg loads on first conversion, then stays cached for offline use.

Question 9

What PDF tools are available?

Accepted Answer

Merge, split/reorder/extract pages, rotate, delete pages, compress, strip metadata, and export pages to PNG, JPEG, or WebP via real pdf.js rendering - all in the browser.

Question 10

What data formats can I convert?

Accepted Answer

JSON ↔ CSV/TSV/YAML/TOML, YAML ↔ TOML, and subtitle dialogue SRT ↔ VTT ↔ ASS/SSA (optional cue shift). You can also export to ODS or XLSX (write-only - Fluxed does not import spreadsheets). The source format is auto-detected on drop; there is no From dropdown.

Question 11

Can I convert video files?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Convert between MP4, WebM, and MKV (MOV/AVI/M4V accepted as inputs), or export a short clip as GIF. Encoding is size-limited and can be slow in the browser - keep clips short for best results. To pull only the soundtrack, use the audio converter instead.

Question 12

What about fonts, ebooks, and presentations?

Accepted Answer

Fonts: TTF/OTF ↔ WOFF (WOFF2/EOT not supported yet). Ebooks: EPUB, CBZ, and PDF on a best-effort basis (MOBI/AZW omitted). Presentations: PPTX/ODP text extract to HTML, PDF, or TXT - layout is not preserved. Tools are grouped under Media, Documents, and Extras in the nav, with a quick search to jump to any converter.

Question 13

Does this work on mobile?

Accepted Answer

Works fine on mobile. All conversions run locally in the browser, so performance and offline support are identical to desktop. To install as a PWA on Android, tap the browser menu and select "Add to Home Screen". On iOS Safari, use the Share sheet and tap "Add to Home Screen".

Question 14

What browsers are supported?

Accepted Answer

Any modern browser - Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge. Keep it updated; features like AVIF encoding depend on browser-level codec support that improves with newer versions.
