About ICO & CUR Files

  • Both formats contain multiple image resolutions in a single file
  • ICO files are commonly used for website favicons and Windows application icons
  • CUR files are used for custom mouse cursors in Windows and web browsers
  • Alpha transparency is preserved for transparent backgrounds
  • Local file processing in your browser
  • Recommended: Include 16×16, 32×32, and 48×48 for best compatibility

How the ICO & CUR Converter works

Create Windows ICO icons, website favicon packs and CUR cursor files from images entirely in your browser. Export ICO/CUR back to PNG/WebP and other rasters, or trace high-contrast logos to monochrome SVG. Preview the crop and download without uploading the source artwork.

A good ICO file contains several image sizes so Windows and browsers can choose a sharp version for each context. Fluxed can package common favicon and application sizes into one ICO, or build a favicon PNG pack (16–512 plus Apple touch) with HTML and webmanifest. CUR output also stores the cursor hotspot. ICO/CUR inputs can be decoded and exported as standard raster images. Optional SVG output uses a lazy-loaded potrace-style tracer suited to logos, not photographs. Processing runs locally with browser image APIs and a purpose-built encoder.

Why local browser processing is safer

Traditional cloud converters upload a file to a remote system before processing it. Fluxed processes files locally in your browser instead. Your files stay on your device. No uploads, no tracking, and no account.

Frequently asked questions

Which sizes should an ICO include?

For broad use include 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixel variants; a website favicon may need fewer.

Does ICO support transparency?

Yes. Transparent pixels can be preserved when the source image includes an alpha channel.

Is my logo uploaded?

No. Previewing, resizing and ICO or CUR generation take place in your browser.

Can I convert a logo to SVG?

Yes, via Trace to SVG. It produces a monochrome silhouette and works best on high-contrast logos; photos will look posterized.
